These pictures show a sequence from beginning the movement of geese to the moment they fly off.
Jack sees the geese on the other side of the pond which is along hole 18 fairway.
As soon as he is given the command he heads towards them always keeping his eyes on the prize!
99% of the time geese will stay close to a body of water for protection until they see danger approaching then they slip into the water.
A quick turn, watching them swim away.
His job now is to move them towards me, herding them just as he would with sheep.
This is a critical part of this work. The geese must never realize that the predator cannot catch them.
As the geese get closer to me they feel even more threatened and just fly off.
This is the fun part of his job, chasing them away. Of course the geese think since he swims so fast that he might even fly after them.
Often the geese will circle around just to make sure that Jack is still on the ground and still in pursuit. It’s not long before they disappear over the trees.
Next to having our customers complimenting us. Expressing my appreciation for her hard work is the most rewarding part of my job.
No one could ever understand the bond and love we have except the few people who love this work and their Border Collies.
